Request AppointmentWhat Is Dry Eye?
Your eyes need a consistent layer of moisture—known as the tear film—to nourish, hydrate, and protect the surface from debris. When the eyes don’t produce enough quality or quantity of tears, they can feel dry and irritated.
Common symptoms of dry eye can include:
-
- Stinging or burning
- Gritty or scratchy sensations
- Redness
- Watery eyes
- Light sensitivity
- Blurry vision
Meibography: Diagnosing & Monitoring with Imaging
Meibography is a valuable tool for capturing high-quality images of the meibomian glands. These glands (located along the eyelids) produce oil that helps maintain a healthy tear film and prevent dry eye symptoms.
By analyzing the meibography images, your eye doctor can assess the health and function of your meibomian glands. We can identify potential issues like meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a common cause of dry eye.
With a clearer understanding of your eye health, we can create personalized treatment plans to address underlying conditions and track improvements over time, enhancing your comfort and vision.
Refresh Dry Eyes & Renew Skin Quality with IPL & RF
Fenix Lumi Optometry offers innovative technologies to help effectively address dry eye symptoms. We use Lumenis technology, a trusted brand in eye care and aesthetic technology, including FDA-approved OptiLIGHT IPL and OptiPLUS RF.
IPL and RF are noninvasive procedures that benefit from multiple sessions, typically 4 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart. We also recommend 1–2 sessions annually to help maintain lasting, effective relief.
Your optometrist will carefully assess your needs and recommend a suitable treatment plan.

IPL Therapy
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy uses short bursts of light to stimulate the meibomian glands (oil-producing glands in the eyelids), reduce inflammation, and control bacterial growth.
Also known as a photofacial, IPL can renew collagen production to help enhance skin quality, including tone and texture.
IPL can help:
- Improve tear quality: Increase oil production for a more stable tear film and longer-lasting moisture.
- Reduce inflammation: Decrease inflammation in the eyelids and surrounding tissues.
- Alleviate symptoms: Provide relief from dry, irritated, and watery eyes.
Radiofrequency Therapy
OptiPLUS radiofrequency (RF) technology uses heat to target skin around the eyes to help decrease inflammation in the meibomian glands (oil-producing eyelid glands).
The gentle RF treatment can also enhance collagen production, renew skin firmness, and help regenerate surrounding tissue.
This process can help:
- Clear blocked meibomian glands: Break up oil blockages and restore normal gland function.
- Improve tear quality: Increase oil production, leading to a healthier tear film.
- Alleviate symptoms: Provide relief from dry, scratchy, and burning eyes.
